Movies about poker have been created for quite a long time now and poker in these movies provides a dramatic effect. The movies showcase the games giving viewers a sense of poker culture and its influence on people who play it.   1. Luna’s game (2001)

The movie is about a girl Luna who is trying to follow in her father’s footsteps as a professional poker player. Along the way, her father is murdered by a loan shark and she is not deterred from following in his footsteps. Underground poker took everything away from her but she is still determined to succeed. She however tries to rationalize herself out of it without success because poker is in her blood and she feels incomplete without it

  1. Rounders (1998)

The story is about two friends who are in large debt and need to play high-stakes poker to win and settle their debt. They are referred to as rounders since the term rounder refers to a person travelling around from city to city in search of high-stakes card games. Jo promises his girlfriend that he would quit gambling until his friend gets out of prison and needs to pay off an old debt. They come close to winning, but they are caught cheating. This movie is one of the best top poker movies that connect well with the audience 

  1. The Cincinnati Kid (1965)

Eric Stoner is a young poker player who is also known as the Cincinnati Kid. He wants to build his reputation by beating the best player around. A game is then scheduled however, Stoner suffers a terrible loss and objects because he feels he can take the match on his own merits. This movie paints a realistic depiction of poker although in some parts it is unrealistic

Bobby is a compulsive gambler who is drowning in debt. He conspires to steal from a high-stakes underground poker game. However, it is evident that he is not the only one with such a plan. He enlists his best friend to pull off a high-stakes heist. The execution is superior we get to view a culture that we didn’t have access to.

  1. Guns, Girls, and Gambling (2012)

This is a thriller movie that involves action crime. In summary, a mask is stolen from an Indian Casino, and a bunch of criminals descend on the small town in hope of finding the mask. A sexy assassin hunts down Elvis to get the mask but Elvis impersonators stay long after the contest playing poker when the mask was stolen. The movie is highly entertaining.

Johny Amato is a rival crook who hatches a plan to rob a card game run by Mob Lackey, he enlists a low-rent thug Frankie to do the job. Frankie picks a lesser ideal partner to assist him but despite their combined incompetence, they succeed in making off with Mob’s money. To revenge, Markie’s boss hires Jackie, a mob enforcer to eradicate those responsibly. Thus the term killing them softly

  1. Poker King 2009

Lovis, Koo a gambler prepare to face off with the casino manager Lao in a poker tournament. The movie is perfect, a man-child will lose his inheritance if he can’t prove he is mature enough to run his father’s company. This movie is quite entertaining and deserves a spot among the top poker movies.
